SAN FRANCISCO — In a move that stunned absolutely nobody who has ever tried to get coffee near Moscone Center during RSA Conference week, the judges of the 2026 RSA Innovation Sandbox competition have awarded the top prize to Blue Bottle Coffee, citing the company's "consistent uptime, zero false positives on oat milk orders, and an unmatched ability to attract the entire cybersecurity industry to a single location."
The award, traditionally given to early-stage cybersecurity startups, was presented to a visibly confused Blue Bottle shift manager named Kevin, who had been told by a coworker that "some conference people want to talk to you." Kevin accepted the trophy and asked whether it was dishwasher-safe.
Blue Bottle beat out nine cybersecurity startups, none of which, according to the judges, "have solved a problem that the industry actually agrees is a problem." One judge described the decision as unanimous. "Every year, we evaluate companies on innovation, market need, and potential for widespread adoption. Blue Bottle has all three. The line during RSA week is longer than the keynote registration queue. That's product-market fit."
The selection was driven in part by a data analysis that found approximately 62% of all badge-wearing attendees made at least one trip to Blue Bottle during the week. The study described the route from Moscone to Blue Bottle as "the most well-trafficked corridor in cybersecurity."
The cybersecurity startups that lost the competition responded with measured disappointment. One founder, whose company offers AI-powered container security, said simply: "I can't even be mad. I went to Blue Bottle twice yesterday. Once before my pitch. We all did."
Blue Bottle has not issued a formal statement. A barista, when informed of the award, said: "Yeah, it gets really busy one week a year and everyone's wearing lanyards. We just make coffee. I don't know what an Innovation Sandbox is." She paused. "Is it like a playground?"
At press time, three venture capital firms had reached out to Blue Bottle about a potential Series F specifically earmarked for "cybersecurity conference adjacency." Blue Bottle has not responded.
